RE: Started work on my Acadian 327 tonight

Thats a realy good question.  I guess what we need is some Acadian owners with original small blocks to verify if there is a K for Mckinnen on there blocks casting. Not sure if this was ever hashed out before.

I just thought of it. That will be an easy one. I have the old GM documents for my car from around 1991 and that means I have the whole microfiche page of cars. There's some V8 cars on there and they have engine numbers. I'll look in a bit.

Spent about an hour trimming the shifter opening in the floor and getting the repro hump to fit better. It was pretty good but I want as little sealer as possible needed to seal it off. I will use lots but I just didn't want to be filling 3/8" gaps with sealer.

Also my back window was installed this week.

Yes, I looked and forgot to post the info. It seems the engine numbers on the sheet are not the same as they are listed on later sheets. I have seen the sheet for a 67 Beaumont and on that one the codes are listed as K or T or whatever.  Still a mystery I guess...

LOL, 94 Impala SS!!!

It's on there cause the car is heading for cold storage shortly and my Acadian wheel is very nice. I don't want it to crack.

Well, this thing's been resting long enough. Summer is almost over....

I took the car off the trailer in the shed where it was resting and brought it in to see if I can find some spare hours to work on it here and there.

Screwed down the hump in a couple of spots (will weld it in like original once I know it all fits the new carpet, console etc) and attached the boot. Those repro shift boots sure are stiff. It really would like to pull it back to neutral in all the gears except fourth where the shifter is at rest, as it should be. I've heard that complaint about repro boots before.

I guess you will have to bang it threw the gears a few times to break it in. Kind of like a base ball glove. Good to see you working on it again.

Finally some time to work on it again. Welded the hump to the floor. Finished making console brackets. Was going to install the carpet and had started when I remembered I had not seam sealed the hump to the floor. Grabbed the tube of seam sealer to do it and..................... shoot, empty!

So much for progress tonight I guess.

On a side note, my carpet I got from NOS seems to be fitting pretty well. Still test fitting but I sure like what I see so far.

Couple of shots---

It is good to see this thread come up again. Carpet will make a big difference for you. Won't be so noisey, you'll barely hear if that 327 is running or not.

Thanks Jerel. It's fun but I just have so much on the go that I don't always get time to work on it. I really want to put it away pretty much done this winter. I have other winter projects that need attention, so this one aside would be great.

In a little over a month I will celebrate 25 years with this car! I've owned it longer than the original owner!

Wow, that was probably even before your good wife.  That is something to be proud of.  Still the guys that blow me away at car shows are the ones who are original owners.

Yes, I got this car about 8 months before we were married. I agreed to sell off most of my cars to work on our mortgage (70 Skylark convert, GS455 (clone) with most options, 66 GP 427 factory 4 speed, 66 GP 427 auto with most factory options, 66 Nova SS 327 4 speed) but I made up my mind this one was the keeper. Glad I did. And the best part is, my wife's a keeper too!

Yes, it's fun to meet an original owner of a 60's vintage car at the shows. They get rarer and rarer...

Looking good Carl. Is it going to be together enough in 2 weeks to make the trip to the big city?

Love that you've owned it for 25 years, come February my 65 SS and I will have been together for 22. Maybe I'll have it back on the road before 25. lol

I think it will have to go on the trailer. No plates plus with the lightened load (pulled out a 427 with an iron intake and installed a small block w/aluminum intake) the front end is way out of line. I just don't think I will have time to do the cosmetics and all the mechanical so I'm focusing on at least making it appear pretty much complete.

The goal is to put it away for winter ready to go next year. Number one son wants to use it for his grad in 2012.
