I believe the east coast part is right since that is where the Acadian name comes from as well.

 

 



There is a town named Canso along the coast of Nova Scotia that is very close to Cape Breton by the Strait of Canso. This is in the area that was once called Acadia by the French settelers. When the Acadian's were expelled by the British a large amount of them went to French Louisiana, around New Orleans. Hence the term "Cajun" Which is what they were called by the locals.
 We had a cottage just outside Canso when I was a kid. Very beautiful place.

 



The names given to the Canadian Pontiacs were very nationalistic, and in most cases, the model names were French in origin. The name Laurentian pertains to the St. Lawrence River. Parisienne is feminine in nature, meaning a girl or woman of Paris. Early French settlers in the Maritimes were known as Acadians, and the cape and waterway between Cape Breton and the Nova Scotia mainland is called Canso. There is a town in Quebec called Beaumont, while the name Invader means to intrude upon or enter forcefully.

Tonight---

Bolted on fuel pump and bent up the line, pump to carb.

Bent the line from the carb to the vacuum advance.

Found those wonky little flat flexible straps that lock the bolt heads on the exhaust manifolds and decided to use the manifolds for now at least (vs using headers) so cleaned up those straps. Might as well get totally anal and use all that goofy original stuff!

Just about ready to take everything off now and paint up the block and all the brackets etc. A couple more nights of work maybe...

I put a lot of little pieces on hangers and did them as well.

Don't worry, that intake and those valve covers won't be staying on there. They are just there to close it up while I paint.

Busted. I completely forgot to take anything along with me.

I'm not so sure I'm winning Joel. Now I have to wait a couple of weeks for my balancer to come. I noticed my original unit is not in great shape. I put a sleeve on it to repair the groove where the seal runs but I'm not happy with the fit. Easier to install now on the stand than in the car so I have to wait.

Not a lot more time to work on it this week anyway.

For the next while I will likely focus on getting all the 4 speed stuff ready. I also have a factory V8 fuel line to install from that burned 65 SS I bought last year. And a new fuel tank, and a new sending unit, and and and.......................

It never ends!

Well, I didn't want to waste my "storm" day off!

Made up the ignition wire set for my 327.

Straightened out the rails on those tinny original 327 valve covers that are always bent from overtightening. Assembled the Z bar for the clutch with it's little nylon seats etc. for the pivot balls.

Dug out the hardware for mounting the flywheel and mounting the clutch to the flywheel. Also installed the clutch fork and boot into the bellhousing.

Installed the fuel pump.

Ignore the intake and valve covers in the pictures. They are just keeping the engine sealed until it's ready to drop in.

It  sure is looking good. I can hardly wait  till I am at that stage. Some day soon I hope. Did you order your balancer through work ? I was at Walker auto this week end and seen one in there display case. Looked like a 327 one.

Yes, ordered through work. Do you know what diameter it was? I have an 8" balancer but I want to use the stock size for appearance sake and I have the timing cover on for it as well. It is just a touch over 6" for the early 327 except L79.

Maybe I will call them just in case. Did you happen to see a price on it?

I just noticed that it was thinner than the 350 ones, so it looked interesting to me.  Did not see the price or remember the size. Kind of stuck out as was in the glass case with the emblems.  maybe for a 283 /327.

Ah this brings back memories, comimg home late from work hideing in the garage for years later haveing a run engine. Finally started breaking it in. sad part is its the 327 for my truck good part is i can work on the 409 and still drive the wagon. If anyone wants a relitivily strong running 327 that get 25 to 27 mpg on the highway and runs on regular give me a shout.

I was at Walker auto today picking up parts for his camaro and asked about that balancer just for interest sake. He said its for a 67 327 for around $160.00 . Here is pics of it.

Thanks Ian. That number only fits 66 and 67 in the parts book, yet the timing cover and crank are the same so I am sure it would work. I have a jobber unit ordered, supposed to be here in about 10 days. It is about 60 bucks less, but I still may go buy this one anyway.

No, it was a 194 powerglide when I bought it in 1986. The engine was bad. I ran a stock 427 Turbo 350 in it until about 5 years ago but the hankering for a 327 4 speed was too much. That is the combo I am working on now. It's a genuine Nova block but not original for this car. The casting date is about a year too early.

It's going to be stock except for the 66 Nova 327 L79 cam and a 69 Z28 aluminum intake with a Holley.

Bit of a setback today. I called to check on my balancer since I checked my order date and tomorrow it will be the 2 weeks they promised. They said they would have to call back, and then I knew it was not good. Sure enough, they forgot to order it so I've been sitting waiting 2 weeks for nothing....

Called around and I "think" I am lucky. A guy I know in an auto wrecking about an hour away says he has one he ordered for a small journal 327 (6 1/8" diameter) and it's a bit rusty from sitting but has never been used. The courier should have it for me at the parts counter tomorrow by nine. I sure hope it's right. I've lost an important 2 weeks because of this.
