Thanks for the latest pics Carl. I was up at 3:30 waiting for the latest...well ok, i was up then but to come to work...less than an hour to go...i'm sleepy.
Glad to see that Stevenson Isle is still ok.

Hmm, I was awake until then. Does that count???!!!

Oh yeah, we are ok as far as water goes. It just grinds on a guy to have a day like to day with the wind, disappointment of having to change plans bringing in my family and then when I check the level this morning it's up 3/4" overnight. Wrong direction!!!

I think we will be able to do a weiner roast!!!

Beautiful day here today. This is likely about the best day so far. Everyone is home, water is calm, gorgeous weather and all the trash suddenly moved out of the back yard yesterday for no apparent reason. It's a lot easier to take when all those things are in place.

So nice out our neighbour went by on a sightseeing tour. We don't do trips that aren't needed unless conditions are ideal, warm, sunny, calm, high enough water to be safe for boating etc. Once the water drops a couple of feet boating is awkward and not near as safe. Too many obstacles.

We went 2 miles west to check up on some friends tonight. We were the first ones from outside their dike (it encompasses about 6 homes) to visit them all week!

Nice boating, by the time we came home it was like glass.

A pretty end to a nice day (or at least as good a day as it could be, considering...)

That last picture is a perfect example of "polishing a turd" if ya get my drift!

Or "just another day in paradise"

Looks like the flood news is dying off and now its just waiting for the lake to disappear. Probably a huge test on the patience. Just about time for garage photos instead of flood photos....

James Bond!

Another gorgeous day in the flood zone.  Sunny, 10 degrees, fairly calm. Tonight I take out my whole family in the boat and may not see them till Saturdaycry

However, I may have a "treat" tomorrow which I will keep under my hat for now.

We are now officially down a total of 8" since the peak, so they say. I don't see that much of a drop here but the experts say so.....

I put in an application for Unemployment Insurance today. We'll see if that yields anything. I would not feel real guilty about accepting a cheque from them after paying in for about 37 years and never collecting before!

I am hoping to get a glimpse of the outside world for a brief time tomorrow, but that is not the "treat" I refer to above.

Down about another 1" or so. This is where it starts to get interesting, and I don't mean in a good way. When we went out last night the outboard was starting to hit at each mile road and railway we have to cross. So.........., no we have to know where everything is and lift each time we get there. Before we could just tour across like one big lake. It will get worse, too. Likely in another couple of days it will drop enough that our main road will not be showing but each crossroad will not have enough water on it to boat across. At that point I have two options-

1) Sit tight until it drops enough to drive to the closest point I am able to boat to, or

2) Boat out as far as I can and then walk down the railway in rubber boots to the vehicle, likely 2 miles. Walking 2 miles on a nice uneven surface like a railway in rubber boots is not exactly what my borderline lower back would appreciate!

We'll see how it all transpires.

The Province has an official department called Manitoba Water Stewardship (MWS) that monitors this whole flood situation. They have many posts scattered around the countryside with measurements on them that they recorded the levels on when the water was rising. These posts are pounded in beside roads. Some of them were totally submerged and will have worked themselves loose in the waves. MWS was nice enough on Sunday night to donate one to our cause. It floated up on our beach so I immediately put it to good use. They are called Water Stewardship so I wanted to be a good steward as well and not let it go to waste!

I know, I've been watching your weather. My wife's sister and family live in Lethbridge. They constantly rub it in our face in the winter when it's nice there.

We haven't heard too much from them lately.............

Like you say, this too shall pass, for both of us!

Oh, and someone asked me last night how much water this would calculate to. Of course I just happen to have the time to figure it out. If I figured right, each square mile of land is covered by approximately 60,300,000 gallons of water.

For you young bucks out there, I believe that would be 273,762,000 litres....

Well, I mentioned a few posts up that I may have a "treat" today. My treat has arrived.

Canadian Poncho member 67SD396, my nephew from Alberta was kind enough to come and endure a little bit of time in the flood zone with me. I boated him in after supper tonight. I think his jaw may eventually return to it's normal position but for now I think he's somewhat in awe, never having seen this before.

As you can imagine, there's a bit of Canadian Pontiac talk going on here! Boy it's nice to have company!!!

I haven't been as faithful with updates the last couple of days for 2 reasons-

First, having 67SD396 here from Alberta for company has been such a blessing I have neglected you all.......

Second, it's pretty boring as far as change. We drop an average of about 2" per day at best so the scenery has remained pretty much the same, sadly.

This is the view off the front step this morning. We had almost 1/2" of rain yesterday which won't help anything.

Oh, I hear our neighbour a mile north had a close call yesterday. He walked the railway in to his place and then walked down the road in about 18" of water with his hip waders on. He climbed in to his truck (Big Ford Super Duty diesel) and planned to drive it the mile and a half north down the road to dry ground. Apparently he only made it about 300' and put his truck off the side of the road. He said it was up to the hood when the truck came to rest. He swam across the ditch to the railway tracks and walked the 2 1/2 miles along the tracks back to another of his vehicles.

I feel for him. He moved here last year from out of the area and is new to this flood thing. He is just another one who underestimated this whole ordeal.

I feel bad because he will not likely get any insurance for his truck as he was driving on a road covered in water and the road is officially marked "Road Closed" which cancels insurance if you drive on it, they say.

I guess if all he's out is his truck he's lucky because it could have been worse.

He's the one who called 911 for the kid in the white Jeep who went into the water and had to be rescued at the start of this affair a few weeks ago if you recal.

This flood wears on a guy. It's tough not to want to take risks in an attempt to make your life as normal as possible. After a few weeks it can make for poor decision making. I've heard of it before. We all want "normal" to come back sooner than it is.

We (67SD396 and I) went out this morning to bring the kids in for the weekend. Ugly, ugly, ugly.....! It has dropped enough that we had to drag the boat over one of the roads on the way to the car. We boated by our neighbour's big Ford that is almost up to the hood in water. It rained and snowed on our way out against wind. That was a treat I must say!!!

We got some new aerial shots. I have no idea who took them.

In this shot, if you look in the foreground at the biggest clump of trees you can see a little bit of white. That is the doors on the shed beside our house.

In this one, we are the biggest clump, upper left.

In this one, we are just below the top of the biggest clump of trees. The north side of Morris is at the top.
