That's great news Carl, but keep posting photos as things progress.

In that last picture it may not look like it but the water was deep enough that I boated right over the driveway without lifting the outboard for clearance. Obviously the rest of the yard was plenty deep enough!

John, thanks for mentioning that I should keep posting updates. I was not sure how far along to carry it. This certainly isn't over as our back yard is still deep enough that I could easily run the boat there if I wanted to. I checked on that 62 Nova hardtop yesterday and the water was still up to the bottom of the rear window at that point.

There is quite the layer of slime on everything that is on level ground. We were out trying to do some cleanup today on the side of our hill and that is one slippery mess.

The 4 lane highway from Winnipeg to Morris is still a couple of feet under for a few hundred feet near Morris. They expect it to be open by about the middle of next week.

I did a bit of an inspection on our driveway today and I'm guessing it will be a few grand in rock to repair it. I am thinking the Acadian project may be temporarily on hold! Not complaining, we came out of this very well in the final end compared to how it could have been... People think I'm nuts to love this place. They ask if we won't consider moving but two months from now this will just be a memory and life will be the normal wonderful it is here by ourselves on the "ranch"!

I haven't posted much in this thread, but I read the updates every day. Don't think that you're boring us at all. I'm just glad to see you're coming out OK.

It sure wasn't hard to adjust to driving out today to go to the Winnipeg swap meet.

It was a lot harder to adjust to boating whenever I needed to go somewhere.

I told the CP member (owner of my borrowed boat) at the swap meet today that it seemed like I put 100,000 miles on his boat in the last month! It sure feels strange when that is your only mode of transportation anytime you want to leave.

I parked it near the shore yesterday and today it is totally dry docked! By tomorrow night it may look a bit silly pulled up on the side of our driveway so far from the water...

We normally drive 3 1/2 miles to Morris when the roads are open and yesterday I drove almost 20 miles one way to get there. It is down to about a foot deep on the highway now I hear.

We went to Winnipeg for Mother's Day and did some sightseeing. It was interesting to see how many people have built there homes lower than our's. A number of the homes we looked at outside of the protection of the Winnipeg floodway system looked like they had a fair battle to protect from the water. We still had about 4 feet to spare where some of them looked to be right at the point of losing the war.

I'm having trouble with my boat today. It really labors hard when I try to drive. Also, the outboard seems to be overheating. Any ideas??????

Here's a shot of it in action......

As the water goes away I walk around and get an idea of the memories it's left behind.

I can't say I'm real thrilled with what I see.

It was just up to the "6" on this stick at the peak.

rofl.gif Not too many Frenchmen who poke fun at themself like you do Pascal!!! I work with a few "frogs" and one of them is pretty good at it. I have to be careful because you know the parts manager happens to be one too!

Yes, they're singing up a storm. It smells like a swamp out there right now. Pretty gross.

That old red shed has a wonderful layer of slime inside it. I have some old junk engines in there that I left to hold it down so it wouldn't float away like the other one did on the other side of the yard. Gonna be a real treat de-sliming it...

I'm happy you didn't have any problems with the boat.  In the short time I've had it, it only hit the water once for a few hours so I was a little worried.
Now it has some history.

Glad to see the Cutlass survived the water as well. smile

Hopefully the tide doesn't come back in anytime soon! Glad to see your beach has grown. It has been nice to follow the action of the flood from the "drain plug". So glad you and the family survived another one.

Can you save it? and I'm not talking about the shed. I know you were concerned about your shell. Hopefully a good power washing will do the trick

We had our weekly care-group meeting this evening and I showed them the photos you had posted over the period of time.aww
I loaded the photos on a CD and showed it on my living room TV.
They were amazed at the resilliance you displayed during the traumatic experience.
I sorted the photos in date order and found that they spanned exactly 30 days of flooding.smile
Now for the big clean-up. Hope your insurance covers all!smile

I had some scrap iron in that shed to weigh it down and keep it from floating. One of the scrap pieces is a 301!!! My apologies to anyone who has one but I have never thought they were one of Pontiac's better engines!

Carl
The water is gone??? Is that why my boat is labouring so hard when I try to drive it?? rofl.gif

Joel
I can probably tell you more about it than you know by the sound of it! It does leak some but that was no problem. I was always wearing boots during it all anyway.

Mike
I have told many people since you stayed here that the timing of you coming here was God sent. It was exactly the week I needed the most to have company and there you were.

For those of you who don't know, 67SD396 is my nephew and he drove 800 miles one way strictly to keep me company for about 5 days in the height of this mess. If you've never experienced the feeling of being alone in the situation I was in, you may not be able to appreciate how precious company is.

Oh, and finally that drain plug is pulled! It appears the highway into Morris will open tomorrow after being closed close to 5 weeks.

Kim
I am thinking I will attack that Impala with a pressure washer as soon as I can. I may even cut off the quarter panels which is the part I am most concerned about saving. The frame is a mint rust free frame but it should be ok. The saddest part is the sliding sunroof. The water was only forecast to go about 1/2 way up the car so I didn't chop the roof off which I would have had I known.

Johann
Wow, I'm famous round the world now! Thanks for doing that. It actually has been fun for me to be able to share. One thing I have found is that I am much more emotional than normal right now. While I am quite open with my feelings at the best of times, it seems the stress, anxiety, loneliness, separation etc that goes with a serious flood seems to accentuate emotions.

As the waters continue to leave, I am faced with a new problem other than the smelly slimy mess of straw and debris. It's a 4 legged problem and it's cutting down our trees.

There is one less nickel in the world tonight wink.gif

I didn't want to hurt any feelings cause I think there's a couple here but that is the best use I've ever found for a 301 !!!

Not much to report other than the water in our creek is down to pretty much normal level. I will try to take some aftermath shots in the next day or two. So far it's too slimy to attempt any cleanup. It needs to dry more.

My neighbour tells me there is a severe washout on the road a couple of miles from here. I hope to get a picture of it before they fix it.

Believe it or not, we all had a craving to go to the lake for the long weekend, so off we went after I finished work Saturday at noon! It was nice being waterfront because we wanted to be there, not because we had to be waterfront! It was so relaxing putting this all behind us for a couple of days. I am very blessed in that I am able to leave all my worries behind when I go to the lake. I never thought once of the mountain of work I am facing here at home. It was great......

It should have been the full weekend but my boss asked me if I could possibly work the Saturday morning and as I told him, when someone misses 3 weeks of work and the boss never complained once, it's hard to say no when he asks for a favour. Besides, he promised me a whole day off in the future for working half a Saturday. I will have no problem taking him up on that offer!

I am thinking some of the driftwood that came in here during the flood may go to the lake to fuel the wood stove. We had to run the fire all weekend as the hottest day we saw there was about 18*. Free firewood delivered to my lawn. See, there is something good about that flood!

Welcome back to your "normal" life. The cottage, cars, work and fires must all be refreshing compared to what the past month+ gave you.

I hope you think it's all "good" now.

It really is refreshing. That is a great way to describe it. I was talking on the weekend with my nephew who came to stay with me for a bit during the flood. He is from out west. He agrees with me that it is very hard to describe the actual feelings that you have during the time of "siege".

I hope he doesn't get mad at me for saying this but he told me after he went home and was reading this thread it was making him emotional. I have gone back a couple of times and read through the thread from the start. I have the same reaction and it's because I have never experienced an outpouring of help in a time of need like I received during the flood, and a very large part of that help came from this site.
