Seems like your set Carl. My parents now have a dike around the town so I'm no where near as bad off as I was in 97. They will be fine this time around. If their town becomes an Iland they will be staying at my home for awhile. Take care and God bless.

Yes   My wife actually got a trumpet and walked around our unsold second house..  We have had several calls since!

April 6th prediction lowered another half a foot for the crest. That is good news. The worst case scenario now is for 9" more water than in 2006 when I took those pictures of our place from the air.

A little bit of relief for us anyway.....

rofl.gif Too many trees in the way!

Maybe a bass derby? There's lots of silver bass in there. The dog retrieved many dead ones after the water was up one year!

This is the scene when we look out our dining room window today. It came up quite a bit overnight. I am guessing we will be an island by the weekend some time.

It has been our good fortune to have very cool weather to slow things down. I think we will escape this one with levels pretty close to those aerial shots on the second page of this thread.

This is how it looked at the peak in 2006. Still a ways to go.

Man thats incredible. THanks for the updates Carl. I saw those water filled dam systems on the news, pretty cool way to do it especially since you have the water no doubt ! You'd think we could sell the extra gallons to the stars and stripes though and eliviate the problem !

Carl, if that is looking out your dining room window, whose house is that?  Your neighbour's?  I thought you said you didn't have any neighbours near by?

Sorry, I wrote that in the reply, then chose a different picture and forgot to change the text!

It should say "this is standing in the back yard looking at the dining room" (garden doors with the 1/2 round above them)

Leaving work early today to go home and do some plumbing to prepare. I hear the neighbour's access is going to be under water in a few hours. That likely means our's will go under tomorrow or Friday sometime if it works the same as other times.

Easy to do the stuff like my plumbing etc while I still have road access in case I have to run out for parts.

Little bit redneck with the swivel rocker sitting on the back lawn, eh??? It usually sits lower down beside our bonfire area.

Thanks Chad. So far it's looking pretty good (well, I guess as good as it can ! nod.gif )

I told Michael to come for a visit and there is some projects around here for us wink.gif My Acadian is going to get worked on as soon as we are landlocked and all systems are in place for us as far as our boats, pumps etc.

I sure appreciate your offer. It is unreal how much help has come out of this forum. I've been an active participant in a few other forums but NEVER have I had so much come my way as it has here...

Time for a picture update! It's gonna get real good real soon! We will lose our road access overnight tonight. We just finished moving our vehicles outside of the flood zone to the point we will be boating to a mile away.

This is the view at the end of our driveway as we turn on to the provincial road-

About 1/4 mile away from our driveway the road will go under tonight as the flood water from the river moves overland-

This is the price you pay when you are out playing around and driving through roads that are starting to wash out-

This is the view as the water comes over the road and fills up the square mile (section) of land we are on-

My measuring stick. Chances are in the next 24 hours we will see about a foot increase. Pretty dramatic change will take place visually with another foot added.

My one regret in all this. I have a 96 Impala SS parts car I couldn't move. No running gear. It has a perfect frame and perfect quarter panels. It will likely be up to the top of the dash in water.

And let's cap it off with a nice sunset view from our living room. They will be a lot better once the water is up more.

Plus just remeber 97 after its was gone no one around for all the clean up..I will be ready and able..Truck pair of gloves, Flatdeck and willing to get dirty and clean up the yard of whatever floated in on you. Yup even the chainsaw is oiled and ready once the water drops. I remeber My Dad and I were the first back to Aubigny. EMO let us use a crawler to get in. Yes the guy splashing in the water is me. You had to walk out front to see if the concrete was not washed out under it. Much to remember. Just give me a dingle if you want that help do not be shy. I will be there so many helped me and my Parents in 97. One way to get the chance to give back.

Wow, familiar view. I know that main street!

Thanks very much for your offer. It is not impossible you will hear from me. You are right, the help is there much more for the water rising, and that is excellent because that is when the desperation hits. The cleanup is not so time sensitive. I remember after 97 I started clean up long before my family came back. I was SO bored I was happy to have cleanup to do! That wet, matted straw is just brutal. It's amazing what a mat it can make, and there is no hope of it ever drying enough to burn. I've tried it weeks later and it's still too wet.

In 97 I had no chainsaw. A huge old oak floated 3 miles from the Red, settled in on the "beach" behind our house, the water went down a bit overnight and the oak was mired there! I went out the next day, hooked it to the boat and yanked until I had it floating again. Putted out into the middle of the field and let it go! I had no choice but to let it be someone else's problem. I had no way to clean it up if I didn't float it away. I still carry a bit of guilt about doing that!

As far as people getting flooded out in Manitoba Carl...I've never really paid much attention ...untill as of late!
I'm now educated to say the least, and will probably always pay more attention.
Those shots really bring it home. Will the Impala shell be trashed with silt?

Probably a silly question, but being that you're on high ground, do you have many critters coming up when they have nowhere else to go?

I have a way of getting people's attention Mark!!!

I am hoping that if I get to that Impala shell right after the water goes down I can save it. I am thinking if I pressure wash it, get all the silt out and get it dried out that the quarters will survive.  It is such a nice rust free car, came from North Carolina.  Plan B was drag it to high ground but I thought it was a sure way to damage the good stuff I had there.

Not a silly question at all about critters. Last flood I had to educate a skunk on where he could and could not live. His idea of living in my mower deck under the riding tractor was not aligned with my idea of where his home should be. He went to skunk heaven after he refused to come out from under the deck in spite of having a bleeding nose (started off using the pellet gun!!!), 2 cans of GM's best brakeclean (to get him good and stoned!) and a sore o-ring (the one under his tail, he kept flipping up the tail to warn me so I shot him in the bull's eye with the pellet gun every time he did it!)

We also get a number of mice which I do my best to trap.

Friends of our's are having deer trouble now. The deer are moving inside people's diked yards.

Last time we had a flood I ran over a number of rabbits on the gravel road as the water came up. They had no place to go. I shot some on the railway tracks as well.  Please don't come down on me for all this. These are animals that would likely starve anyway. A bullet is much more humane than that.

Hey Carl; What do you think of those waterdyke systems in plastic tubes ? We are supposed to have a flood again in Sundre again. There was a river flood in 2005 that flooded right through town & I was telling the committee about that system I saw on Tv??

I guess it remains to be seen but it sure seems like a great idea. Time will tell I guess. I know sandbagging is sure brutal work.

I was just talking to my neighbour and he tells me Winnipeg is having some serious flooding concerns due to ice jams hindering the floodway operation. Seems somewhat ironic. My cousin who grew up on this very yard we live on moved to Winnipeg and lives only about 5 houses on the "good" side of the floodway gate. I almost need to contact her and see if she needs help sandbagging. A strange twist knowing that this yard has experienced about 10 floods in 60 years and she lives where it is considered safe.

Wow! I just opened the garden doors and stuck my head outside to listen. It's funny how quiet things are when the roads are closed, no traffic noise.

See that pic above? That is a good 3/4 mile away and it's washing over the road so strong there now it sounds like a waterfall. I can hear it from here!!!

Funny how much you seem to take it all in stride Carl.
Are you at all nervous?
