whats the best way to hook up the the engine


another engine hoist question where do you guys/gals think the best way for me and my dad to take the engine out?

Put some bolts through a chain  (front to back of engine)  then use the hook from the engine lift (cherry picker)

This is what I would do:

Some small blocks have loops bolted onto the intake bolts in that area already for pulling engines. See below:

i don't have any loops. Could i use the exhaust manifold bolts on both sides?

Are you taking the rams horns off ? If yes then that would work. Front and back opposite sides like I showed.

I have done it with longer bolts in the extreme front and opposite corner extreme rear of the manifolds. Just make sure you buy decent bolts, not Grade 2 junk.

If you are removing the manifolds right away after pulling it, as Ray suggested then do it now using those same bolt holes

 i was thinking because i have the engine leveler and it has 4 chains with brackets on them i could use the exhaust manifold bolts on all 4 cornes of the engine

i'm pretty sure that is how its designed to be used. if possible get hardened bolts that are long enough, but not too long. that is a lot of weight on the end of the chain.

Since you have the intake off, the 4 corner bolts would be perfect, yes. I've done it sometimes with just the two corner bolts.
