TH400 help!

Ever since I bought the 2+2, it has been one surprising and bewildering discovery after another.  Tonight I was under the car installing the new shifter linkage, when I noticed that the electrical switch in the transmission had nothing connected to it! I looked in my '69 fullsize impala assembly manual and it shows the "kickdown" switch is mounted up by the carburetor and then the harness wires connect to the transmission.  On American Pontiacs, the switch is mounted down by the accelerator pedal.  This is all new to me and confusing why the previous owner removed this? confuse  So at this point, I have no "passing" gear and no parts to make this functional.  I need the bracket, the switch, the harness, and pictures or diagrams on how this is all supposed to connect.  Extremely frustrating treading in these unfamiliar waters and at the same time wondering what the previous owner was thinking?! no  I need a lot of help on this one guys!  THANKS!

on the transmission connector, how many conductors are there, 1 or 2?  Likely 1 for 1969 as there was no Transmission Controlled Spark like on my 1970, as mine has 2 conductors in a "T" formation.  On mine, one conductor is to sense what gear it's in, and the other is for kickdown.

The setup will be very similar to my 70 454 turbo 400, where 12V power goes to a switch mounted on the carb, and then continues down to the transmission.   I've seen a couple different types of switches for 1969, likely dependent on assembly plant and when it was built.  I'll see if I can post photo's of my switch and bracket, and there's also a "foot" that mounts to the throttle part of the carb that comes down and pushes the switch to engage passing gear.

I used to have those pieces left over and they were exactly from a 69 Pontiac 427. I will see if they are still here but I think I sold them...

I just spent some time looking for this and another part but no luck so far. I know I had it because I pulled the 427 form the 69 and put it in my 66 4 speed car so this stuff was removed.

I know the bracket can be bought repro, same one as on a Chevelle, etc with a quadrajet carb (not the same as a Holley carb).  I likely have a single conductor connector as well.

I checked my notes from when I had to make the harness when I put in my 454, while my transmission connector has 2 conductors in a T formation, yours should just have a single with the conductor in the bottom of the T.

Re 12V power, between your brake booster and the plastic gutter that runs along the top of the firewall that the harness should sit in, does it look like there is any cut wires there? (your oil pressure sending unit wire should also come out of the harness there).  That's where my 1970 gets the power from, it's just a 12v lead that comes on with the ignition.

here's the harness (or one from a 69 Camaro), looks like they get power from the wiper motor (which rings a bell for '69's).

Yes! That is the same harness that my assembly manual shows connecting to the wiper motor. Thanks!

Definitely would appreciate any pictures that could be supplied!

Also, the switch seems to be a hard item to find or extremely expensive.  Anybody have a good working extra that they would sell at a reasonable price?
Thanks.

Interesting stuff to know as I will be using a Turbo 400 in my 69 Beaumont. Just looked in my manual and shows the 69 Beaumont switch is mounted on the accelerator lever in the car and for 69 pontiac and acadians is on the carb.  Will have to remember this post 5 years from now LoL.

I promised another member on here that I would not complain about how this car definitely was not worth $45,000.  So, the facts are that the previous owner got ripped off on what he paid for work done on this car and until you start taking things apart, you don't realize what the quality of the work was and what is missing.  The car was not advertised as a total nut and bolt restoration, so a lot of the purchase cost (too much) was due to the rarity.  The car has an awesome paint job, TOTALLY unrepaired rock solid frame and body with the exception of the trunk floor being replaced.  Other than that, I estimate that I will put another $20,000 into it over the next couple years to bring it up to my standards.  At THAT point it will be a candidate for a $30,000 sticker.  Cars are a labor of love and we're all crazy (some more than others! lol)  At this point I consider myself a preservationist and am comitted (no pun intended) to own it for a long time.  Simply said, I look at this car as a rare piece of Canadian Pontiac history and I love the car.  Also, I thankfully have a very understanding wife!  Enough said.

One of the gents here in Calgary is the original owner of a 69 Caprice 390hp 427,  That's the switch he has on his car as I looked at it last week.   The switch on my 70 454 is different (same general concept, but different switch), and I've also seen my style switch on some 69 turbo 400 cars.     I'd say the one here on ebay is a decent deal, as it includes the bracket, but missing the paddle (or foot as I called it previously)

Thanks for the tip on the switch 427carl!  I made an offer and got it for $60 with the bracket.  Thankfully the paddle or foot is still attached to my carb.
Thanks seventy2plus2 for the tip on the harness and the other info!  Much appreciated!
So in the end, I got what I needed for $106 shipped.  I thought I was in for another long hunting expedition like I'm still on for the elusive 396/427 crankcase vent tube!
Thanks again guys!
