is it possible to have a small block V8 turbo 350 and still have a coloum shift

yes in the blue 65 invader,right now its got 350v8 turbo350 giant headers and a floor racthet shifter.Ive picked up an original coloum with shifter and linkage and will take off the headers,why is it that only the stalk manifolds for acadians should be used,

ok,also that 1965 caged acadian in osoyos,b.c. does still terror the streets it was sold from mason to ken helm and then a custom car builder named JF.It is black now but still green under hood do beleive its like you remembered it,ken never drove it he just kept it his barn for many years,JF bought it and fired it up and raced it,until the rotten rad hose blew up,he changed it and still races in osoyos at the airport on sundays in the summer.

It seemed to me that the Chevy II/Acadian ram-horn exhaust manifolds were unique - something about the outlet not dropping down as far as on other versions of the ram-horn styles for Corvettes, big Chevies through '70, or light/medium/heavy trucks.

If you can find the Chevy II/Acadian pieces, they apparently are the same regardless of engine (283, 327; 2-barrel, high-performance).

Even though the V8 was not offered until the '64 models, around mid-'62 Chevy catalogued all the parts necessary to swap a V8 into a Chevy II, including a special block with relocated clutch bellcrank bosses, special exhaust manifolds and other stuff

Last winter I put a 327 and a 200 overdrive into a 63 Acadian wagon for someone. Headers, column shift. That is an ugly, ugly think to make work. I'm not 100% happy how it turned out but it leans towards being a rat rod, and that was fortunate! If you want headers and column shift, you have to make the ugliest lower shift arm you've ever seen, to connect the pivot to the transmission down by the frame rail.

Also, you may have to bend the arm that comes out of the steering column, (depending on your header brand I imagine) because it hits the #7 cylinder header pipe.

I would certainly encourage using the stock manifolds unless you are really running a high perfomance engine and have to have headers. The one I did is a pretty raunchy small block with aluminum heads and it needed to run headers.

Do you have original Nova/Acadian manifolds? As Carl mentioned, they are unique. The alternator boss on the driver's manifold is unique to these cars. Also, they both have swept back outlets, likely about a 45 degree angle.

well im thinking the way this 350 is stuffed in i could probably get away with any manifold,the motor sits real low and the pan is custom made,i dont think any of the mounts are chevy 2.ill snap some photos later so you can see.

Ok, if you have a passenger side alternator, that puts a whole new twist on things. There really is nothing correct for manifolds that do that so you will likely have some challenges.

The stock V8 mounts for Acadians and Novas make the motor sit closer to the passenger side. The engine would hit the steering box if it was centered.  Here is how mine looks.  You can see that the center of the air filter is to the left of the rad cap and center of the grille.  These are the original motor mounts for a V8 Acadian.

I believe the real reason the engine is offset is to teach patience using the #4 cylinder spark plug installation as the educator...

ok went back to the stalk manifolds using stalk colum shifter,linkage hooks right up to the 700r4 with the help of the homemade shifter arm from the ratchet shifter,ok so it goes into park,then i can shift it into reverse and neutral,and when i pull her down into low i dont think shes going all the way down,do you have to modifie the colum or the swivel on the frame?

I have done it modifying the frame swivel and rod that runs across to the trans. I think the column can remain stock.
