65/66 12 bolt interchange?


Just need to confirm that Impala/Parisienne 12 bolt will interchange between these cars/years. (bolt in?)

Does the driveshaft length change from 10 bolt to 12 bolt?

all the same two types of shaft the quiet two piece and heavy duty one piece, i never did find out why the 409 cars are running the big yokes

Wow, I would have bet (and I don't bet!) all 65 and up had a 1 piece.

How did they mount a hanger bearing on that style of frame?

And yes, 12 bolt uses a shorter shaft.


Transmission type also determines driveshaft length.

 Except for THM 400 (of course) Different yolk as well. ('67-'70) Not sure of '66. Never had one!

The rear ends will bolt in for all years from 65-70, but the 65-66 cars have slightly different mounting bracketry for the upper control arms. T400 yolk is same from 65-70, and is the only thing you have to change on the driveshaft if going from PG or T350 to T400.

no guys there are two shafts by two piece i did not mean the center bering style, what it is , is a shaft within a shaft in rubber they strong but can let go because of age, the other unit is a traditional one piece shaft they seem to be lighter. the lenght is the same for pg 350 the 400 is the only odball. what i meant by yoke size was a the rear end i have the big yoke on both cars .

I recall seeing a rubber insulated shaft somewhere along the line but I can't remember what year the car was. 

As to yoke size, the spline count is different for T400 vs the rest, but I've never seen a shaft on either a 10 bolt or a 12 bolt that didn't use the same size u-joint. Is that what you meant - the dimensions of the yoke? 

I could also be wrong. I'm no expert - I'm just going on what I've seen in owning a lot of B bodies between 62 & 70.

that must be it insulated shaft, i always thought they were low performance only but it was stock on our 300hp par but its a very early production car lot of 64 marked parts on it it was all heavy duty. as far as the yoke size i havnt seen to many 09 cars, and i was never realy interested in the underside till i got these two, the drive shaft diameter is the same as a heavy duty 300hp but the yoke on the dif and the trans yoke are a larger diameter they are the same as on 1 ton trucks of the time, thats all i was wondering about

 I have never seen an "insulated" shaft... The only insulation I have seen is the yolk dampner on both 'glides and THM400's.  

 NOTE: These shafts are off of '66-'68 with Powerglides. Funny thing is, I never saw a 'glide shaft with a damper untill I got that 2dr '67 Grande from 66grandeguy last year. I do have both styles of the THM 400 shaft with and without the dampner!

the insulated end is at the other side faceing the diff and looks as if a tube got shoved inside another tube with a quater inch of black foam around it between the tubes ill snap a pic when i go to town
