RE: Engine Build Update

Loose the HEI imop. Rebuild your stock distributor with a Pertronix or similar unit. No trouble with a open element 14" air breather with the stock dist. Forget it with the HEI. Only an opinion, but I hate those huge HEI's regardless of how cheap and simple they are, they're way too damm big!

I guess I don't like the HEI. Sorry.

Hmm..

Problem is this is the only distributor I have..didn't get one with the engine. Rabbit, any pic I've ever seen of a 327 has the tube at the rear...do you have pics of this stuff because I don't have any of it...

Should look like this shaune . I believe a hose fits on the tube and an inline PCV valve then to back of carb. I think I got it correct. Maybe Dave or Carl has an extra one.

Your filler tube should go in the hole just in front of the thermastat housing hole. This one is drilled out for it but yours is not.

took a pic for ya. this is the 283 that was in my 55. filler on the front and the pcv valve is behind the distributor (the distributor is not fully seated) and feeds into the base at the back of the carb.

My apologies if I've upset you Blackheart and at the same time offended our good members, but I truly just thought it was you having a little fun. Obviously you were not, and judging by the after comments, they in no way read it as such either. We do try to help each other here, and that's what makes this site different.

Cheers, Mark

Well,

A bit of an update, the drive shaft is in, (it needed a new U joint) the transmission cooler lines are in, the power steering pump is in and hooked up, exhaust manifolds are hooked up and the new dipstick is in. Ordered the new temp and oil pressure guages and sending units. Went with the Sunpro retro 2" ones to go with the Tach I bought. So we just need to drill out the intake for the oil tube and the temp sending unit. I'll be calling the guy tonight about the PCV Adapter...wish me luck!!

did you have the intake bolted down already... you may be able to reuse the gaskets?  most guys now just run a nice bead of RTV silicone for the end seals, and let it skim before setting the intake straight down.

sucks that you have to pull it to drill out the oil filler hole... but then you will be good to go..

Hey Roger,

It was loosely bolted in but only in the corners as we knew we'd have to drill out and tap for the temp sending unit..so no biggie there. Just spoke with the guy who has the PCV Adapter and he has all of it, so we are good to go. Going up to St Andrews tomorrow night to get it!!
