Lifting a 67 327. Where to bolt the chains to?


Guys,

Where is the best place to attach the chains and lugs to when lifting a 67 SBC without accessory holes in the heads?

Intake is still on I assume?

Tranny attached or unbolted?

If the intake and trans are still there, there is always the exhaust manifold bolt at the ends. Either that or remove the end intake bolts, get longer ones and find a chain that will fit on under those bolts. That is what I usually do.

Well, you could try wiggling the trans back a bit and then using one of those bolts and a water pump bolt but I think I'd just go with the intake opposite corners. Depending on the intake, it can be a challenge getting a chain to sit properly in that corner though.

last time i was in a recycle yard i yanked a couple of those brackets that you see on the right hand front of mouse boys engine. i also put one to the left and rear of the distributor and used them to pull my 283

The mouse has the brackets on both corners, but the carb plate method is so easy I prefer that.

does the carb lift plate work with a tiller bar? i just had the 283 out of the 55 and after everything was said and done, i think next time i replace a engine i want a tiller bar.

I have a tilter, Princess Auto from a few years back. Now who want's to lend me a pair of those lifting lugs seen at the #1 and 8 intake runner like on Ray's SB? Actually my tilter came with two heavy 90 degree drilled brackets on the ends of the chains, and they should work on the intake bolts. I'll use some longer grade 8 bolts in place of the short originals on the intake. Cheers, Mark
