I don't think I've ever heard a complaint around here about too many pictures of someone's project!

Hi fellow Pontiac enthusiasts,

My '64 Custom Sport ragtop has finally gone to the shop for a body and paint job.  I'll post some pics of the progress if anyone is interested.  Has anyone out there had any luck finding the rectangular metal clips which fasten the rocker panel and rear quarter panel mouldings to the body?  If so, I'd certainly appreciate finding out where to buy them.  Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Do you see anything here? Take a look: http://www.thecliplink.com/retainers/moulding-clips/moulding-clip-general-motors-gm-100-per-box.html

You can also inquire here: http://autobodyclips.com/index.html

I always admire it when someone tries to source the clips and retain the stock trim as opposed to taking the easy road and deleting them altogether. It happens a lot on Beaumonts and 67 Malibus.

Good luck! Report back and let us know if you find what you are looking for.

Geno products Page H052, you will have to reduce the zoom to see the bottom of the page. Saskatoon has a store, haven't tried to buy any yet so not sure if they stock but might be the easiest place for you to order/buy from.

Good Luck.

Oh, and more pics please.

Roger, with your '64 wisdom, do they even repro these "clips"? Did the U.S. Bonny use them?

US Bonny would use the same clip. I've never tried to source them,, would sure be interested to see if there is something out there!  My spare trim has not been molested yet ,, NOT screwed on like the current stuff on the car.

Here's What you'll be looking for. They are different animals ... they clip into rectangular holes.

*These ones aren't for sale ... just my spares.

That 64 I just stripped for you has those clips behind the rear wheels but the ones along the rocker under the door have a small bolt holding them on.  I stopped in yesterday to see what they still have and those clips are there.  If you are desperate I can try remove them.  I know at Hershey there were all kinds of guys supplieing clips and fastners of all sorts.

they are an odd clip, but the reality is,  the only important piece is that it has the correct opening to hold the pin on the trim.  the rectangle is only important if your replacing,  but if your doing the restoration, it would be possible to retrofit to slightly different clip.

IF I ever take my 64 down for paint again,  I will find what I need to install my spare trim correctly.....

These rectangular clips are also used on the 64 Beaumont Sport Deluxe.
Saw a hanful of them this weekend while at Spring Carlisle but didn't buy them as I have a full supply that I purchase some time ago. They were marked as for 66 pontiac. I've never been able to locate the pins that slide into the trim and then push into this clip. Made new pins out of flat head rivets by careful filing.

The company that I saw them at was Restoration Specialties in Windber, PA www.restorationspecialties.com

Did a quick check of there catalog but couldn't locate a part number. However, JMont's pic is very good and they should be able to identify it from that. Theirs are painted a reddish color.

good luck with it.

A very special Thank You to all who responded to by request for help in locating clips for my '64CS rocker moulding. I appreciate the time and knowledge that you each shared with me. I am currently following up on each of your suggestions. Thank you Pontiacanda for the great pictures. I have 8 original clips exactly as you posted. I agree with rabbit64CS in that it is the center hole that is important. I have not ruled out making something myself if I cannot find any new ones. It is refreshing to know that at least other GM models used the same clip. I will explore these options.

That clip looks exactly like the clip that holds the dash pad at each end on a 66 full size Pontiac.

Maybe that's why Restoration Specialties had them labelled as for 66 Pontiac

Hi jmont64
I have sent you a private message regarding the '64 CS rocker moulding clips. I have followed up on all the great responses to my request but, to date, nobody has been able to come up with any. I am going to pursue the 64, 65, 66 Bonnevilles which had the wide rocker mouldings. I agree with others who suggested that the Bonnevilles likely used the same clips. I am also going to pursue Carl's suggestion regarding the '66 Pontiac dash pads. Thanks!

Pritch, I've been following up on some of the leads mentioned in this thread also (because I know a few of my clips under the trim are toast), and I'm not having much luck yet. I'll work on it further, because I need to find out.

I had a chance to grab some of those clips tonight but they are different than the ones peviously shown. These are off of a 64 Parisienne. Will show you what they look like and see if they will work for you.

Thank you jmont64 for your incredible effort in picking up these clips. I will take this picture of the clips to my bodyshop and see whether or not they will be able to modify them for my '64 CS mouldings.
As you have already pointed out, there is a difference between the Parisienne and Custom Sport mouldings and clips. As Pontiacanda said earlier in this thread, they are "different animals."

Well, I was sure I had seen that clip (like the pic of Darryl's spares) in a catalogue but for the life of me I can't find a listing for it now. I was sure Auveco or Papco or someone like that showed it. Maybe it will come to me yet...
