RE: '64 Pontiac Custom Sport rocker mouldings

Jerel, Those clips are totally different, and won't work. They clip into the "folded edges" of the backside of the trim.

The ones for the CS snap into rectangular holes in the body, and then a "pin" on the back of the trim snaps into the small rectangular hole in the clip.

I'll take some pictures tonight.

Thanks, Darryl.

They may well be the same as my Beaumont ones then as there is a rectangular hole for them, pretty good size hole in fact.

Excellent post, Pontiacanada! You have summed up these '64 CS moulding clips perfectly. I am still searching. Hopefully, something will turn up. At least the word is out and, thanks to this awesome site, maybe we'll find a few.

I've been looking also Brian, with no luck, so far.

It seems that '64 Bonnys, although they have simular, but longer, lower trim, don't use the same clips. This guy sounds sounds a bit arrogant, but here they are:

Was that video made for you?? Did you get a price out of him? I had called for some lenses from him once , price was a little rich for me.

I spent 1/2 hour looking through the PDF catalog online,  they have a lot of stuff , But I did not find an exact match?

I would be worth while to contact them and email some pics with dimensions,  there is a good chance they will be able to match them up.

I do not have any clips handy.....

Nope Roger, just on the internet ... I'm still searching for the trim clips ... they are unobtanium.

As I posted earlier. I saw these clips last weekend at Spring Carlisle. They are painted a red colour. They were at Restoration Specialties, Windber, PA - who is a major clip supplier.

Excellent pics of more clips and chrome, Jmont64! As Pontiacanada's pics demonstrate, some of the "pins" in the moulding are fixed while others in jmont64's pics slide along inside the moulding. I did the same thing you did, rabbit64cs. I went through the entire PDF file of restorationspecialties but could not find the clips. Excellent suggestion. I took a picture of four clips that I have and will contact restoration industries.com and send along the pictures and dimensions. I am still optimistic that we are going to find them somewhere. Thank you guys for your perseverance!

...I'd love that no. too as we'll probably be taking our mouldings off for painting as well...

Has anyone found these clips yet?

An update:

I found some more of these clips off an old '64 Custm Sport that was being parted out. I also found out now that there are 3 different clips used on the lower '64 CS trim according to the parts book (which complicates things even further disbelief).

CS Front Door Outer Panel Moulding Clips #4877401 12.112

CS Rocker Panel Moulding Clips #380859 8.231

CS Rear Of Wheel Opening Moulding Clips #4836769 12.116

Someone on this site kindly ran these #s through the GM parts database and they are discontinued.cry

Here's updated pictures of the (2) types of clips I now have (I painted them to help curb corrosion) ... besides the type I already had (on the left) the latest type I found look exactly like the ones that work on Jerel's Beaumont (the clip on the right):

Excellent research, Pontiacanada! Indeed, these are the mysterious clips. I have not had any such luck locating these clips, but I have not given up.

Thanks Carl. They can be made to work, (holes in the car body/doors would have to be lengthened/widened) but sadly they are not the same animal.cry

The smaller of my clips measured out to approximately 1 1/4" L x 1/2" H x 1/2 W.

The width will remain constant, but the length and height might vary slightly due to bending.

Great discovery, Carl. You have an excellent memory. I do agree with Pontiacanada. These clips are a little different but definitely could be made to work on the '64 CS rocker mouldings. They are the closest to the original that I have seen. Thanks for sharing!

And more of an update.

It was a nice day here today, and I've been paid for the rocker moldings on the 66 Grand Prix parts car I got recently, on the understanding that I'd pull them off when conditions are good. I decided to get started.

Guess what holds the 66 Grand Prix lower trim on (along with a few countersunk screws)...

So '66 Grand Prix eh ... good stuff!

Are they 2 different widths Carl, or am I just seeing things?

No, it must be a trick I pulled with the camera! They all look identical in real life.

I know a yard with 2 of these cars, but they are sunk in the dirt pretty good. Not sure I can still get the mouldings off.

Darryl, when I think about it, it seems to me 65 Bonneville has the wide moulding too.

Well, I'll be damned, Carl!  I do believe that the clips from your '66 Grand Prix are identical.  And, yes, Darryl, the '65 Bonneville has the wide rocker mouldings too.  We usually spend 6 weeks in the Apache Junction/Phoenix area over the winter.  I plan to scour even more wrecking yards and will keep a special alert for a '65 and '66 Grand Prix.  You can be guaranteed that I will let you know if I find some.  Thanks ever so much for the up-date.

I had a smile on my face when I pulled the first moulding off and saw this! I knew there'd likely be some happy people here!

If I get a chance in the spring I'll grab some of these from my favourite yard. I know he has some.
