What do you know about engine wiring ? ?

. . Ok, , I have a '68 Parisienne 2+2. . 327 engine. . When I bought the car the temperature idiot light did not work. . Come to find out the temp sending unit did not have a wire running to it. . A quick check around failed to find it. . I thought when I pulled the engine for rebuild I would find it. . No luck. . Can not find anything that resembles a broken wire coming from any of the wire looms. .
. . Any ideas where that wire is supposed to be? ?       no

If I recall right it should be a green wire and I think it will go to a bulkhead connector at the firewall by the brake booster. Maybe start there and see if you find a green wire there? It may have some of that braided type of insulation over it.

Or,

You could just buy a guage and install it. Much better than an idiot light...

Do you have a service manual for your car?  It'll have a wiring diagram which should show where it goes through the bulkhead.   Where is the sensor?  Drivers side head?  Passenger side head?  Intake manifold?  As Carl indicates, it should likely be a green wire, and if I recall the sensor is on the intake manifold.   You may need to peel a little of the loom wrapping near the wiper motor to see what you can find.

The wire should be in the same harness as the wires to the alternator. That's where mine runs. By the way, nice car. You have the twin to mine.

That's where it was on my 70, however I know they had moved it around a bit.     So, the headlight harness should have a braided cover that splits out about midway along the drivers fender.   It will run down towards the sending unit in the cylinder head, and have a green wire inside it.    Is the braided cover present?   If so, you may need to peel it back a bit to find the green wire.

green 1.JPGgreen 2.JPGYours looks a little different from mine. . My alternator plug has two wires while yours only has one. . To make matters worse, , I'm color blind. . Of the three wires going to the alternator, one large looks red, one medium looks blue and the small one I can not tell. . The small one goes to the side of the plug marked  R  . .

. . I think that's it. . Best guess would be that something happened to the green wire and someone thought it went to the alt. . Next question would be why didn't something melt down when the green wire was hooked into the alt ? ?
