Need help with engine

judging by the look of the air cleaner, it's a mid '70s to early '80s.

the 18436572 is the engine firing order.

the block casting # is behind the driver side cyl head and the stamp # is in front of the pass cyl head. post those.

ParisienneEngine.jpg

Hi guys:

Can anyone tell me where this engine originally came from? The serial engraved on it is 18438572 which appears at the front. I don't believe it's the original since I was told it's a 305 but would love to confirm what exactly it is and where it came from.

Other serials in the car, which by the way, is a 67 Parisienne 2+2:

Pillar next to driver's door GM CANADA D.D

                                          7686771108862

Firewall: STYLE 76867   2-10-19

               BODY NO. 03         709591

               PAINT                CC

               TRIM                 572

A31A33N35U10   TP02U75            (this line is barely legible, especially atfer N35U)

Any help would be appreciated. Leo

Judging by oil filler tube on valve cover it's from a truck, agree with Barry, mid to late 70's and up

Yes, FIRING ORDER I can read it now!!

As for checking behind and in front of the cylinder heads, I don't see anything unless I'm checking in the wrong place. Maybe in daylight might have better luck! And yes, I would expect it to come from a pick-up truck ofsome kind.

Thanks,

From drivers side number will be behind distributor, raised casting, on front it looks pretty clear on passenger side but sometimes paint fills in the stamping on those.

My guess at a glance is a 1967 283 with a carb, intake and valve covers from a 1971 GMC 1/2T and air cleaner from a 1975.

Thanks
Randy

"that number is off the intake manifold i believe "

It's not, it's at the rear of the engine block between the air cleaner and the distributor.

I was able to find this on the passenger side, barely visible and hopefully I got it right: 14032321 9TOR   I found something that has not more than 4 characters, but very difficult to make out. I can't find the block casting number, unless it's totally covered by the distributor. How many characters is that supposed to be? Sorry, I can't find anything else.

Meanwhile I spoke to the previous owner. Says he changed the engine in 1987 (was originally a 283) but all he remembers is that it came from a pickup truck, no more details.
