I always get a kick out of how pedals are so mismatched! I know it's correct though, my factory 4 speed car that I bought in 1981 was the same way. People often asked me about it. I had more than one person tell me my car wasn't a factory 4 speed because the pedal heights were so different!

My other handle that I will likely use isn't perfect either. I'm actually trying to make this car look like a well used original. I am excited about having a car I'm not scared to drive. Seems like for years I've had stuff that I hated to take out because it's almost 3 miles of gravel road for me every time I leave.

It's going to be fun not having to make every last piece look perfect.

My original plan was to go big and make this one as nice as the 4 speed car I had 25 years ago. Nuh-uh! I woke up! I love looking at perfect cars, even real nice drivers. This won't be either of those.

Coming along nice. But as the boys said the way you have the car on there is scary! And should the straps not be crossed when you tie the car down? I thing it's time for a different truck and a 4X4 would be great at the cabin.

OK Gotta ask, how did it tow with the car on trailer Backwards???? I tried that once with the old trailer & swore I'd never do "THAT AGAIN" Took into the "speed wobble" & nearly lost the whole works, swaying back & forth, thank goodness for trailer brakes, as that got the MESS straightened out!! Couldn't get enough tongue weight on the hitch!!!! Pete

 I'm with Pete on this one.  That is a huge "no-no".  I did the same thing as what Pete is talking about but I didn't have trailer brakes.....there was no straightening the mess out.  It put me in the ditch and wrote the box off on my 67 Chevy 1/2 ton.  

I swear to not put vehicles on a trailers backwards.

I have to load it that way. My poor little 2 wheel drive can't handle the tongue weight when I load it forward. The axles are so far back on the trailer I have incredible tongue weight with this car on there. I tried it forwards and the threads for the hitch ball are less than 2 inches from the road.

I think when I bought it a year ago I towed it home loaded forward and the steering was scary, to say the least.

Bottom line is I need a heavier tow vehicle for a load like this.

Yup, works perfect. I built a 3-4 rod, used the other 2 from you and it all looks/works/fits like a new one!

Yes, and yes to both those things you say. However, for 7 miles, 50kmh/hr with virtually no traffic I figured I had it covered. To top it off, the first 3 miles out of town on the blacktop were snow packed too. Easy does it

Unloaded and in the garage, drove there under it's own power. I'm likin' it!

Carl, with my luck I would have been pulled over at the end of the drive way!!! I always cross the rear straps & make sure the safety chains are crossed as well on hitch!! Frt straps on trailer can be straight [here in Ont] but rears have to be crossed!!! Wasn't "dissin" you on posistion of car on trailer,what ever works for you, but that just brought back a "nite mare" !!!

Good work Carl. Coming along nicely. As for your tow set up, you need to get yourself a weight distributing hitch. The bars make all the difference in the world. I won't tow without them, even empty, just a little pressure takes all the slap out, and loaded and cranked up,....smooth level and no sway. The only way to tow.

I was goin going to say just that ..

As for your tow set up, you need to get yourself a weight distributing hitch. The bars make all the difference in the world.

 

AND a pair of load leveler air bags... real cheap  in comparison to a heavier truck.

That's how I run my 2 wheel drive avalanche .... no worries whatsoever...and then when I'm empty....  I keep the bags at 4 psi...

I had a load of shingles on my trailer...the ball was 2" from the dirt... brought the bags up to 60 psi and I had 6"- 8" clearance..

 

I'm sure you don't tow a heavy load often......the bars are most likely all you need ,  watch kijiji for a set for no more than $200

Yes, likely I tow maybe 6 times a year, and usually it's a lot lighter than this beast.

And for the record, I'm still smiling at the fact that I had to use a clutch pedal to drive it in to the garage!!!! It's been about 23 years...

 Ditto the Airlift bags, just put a set in the coils of the 'Burb, wow what a difference, can't wait for camping season next year.

I have to find some time to visit you about that pad Kevin. I have the one from the car but it has 2 splits in it. I suppose repair is an option but I'd rather have a decent replacement.

Under different conditions I likely would have done a little road test here today but it was cooling off, some fresh snow, just wanted it inside for now. On a different day...

The specs for the 66 cam 396  360 hp and 427 390 hp engine is .462 intake .480 exhaust lift and 340 intake and 340 exhaust duration. Acording to the chevy by the numbers book. The 67 to 69 cam is almost the same. They just increased the duration to 350 intake and 352 exhaust and added this cam to the 396 350 hp and 427 400 hp engines. was thinking of this or something close for my 396 ,probably 480 lift intake and exhaust instead of the split lift of the stock cam.
