I want to put headers on my 68 Parisienne. I am leaning towards hooker ceramic coated bright headers. What do you have?

Summit brand SUM-G9001-9 on my 350 crate.

Nice finish (still perfectly bright after a summer of some good hot runs), good fit on my 67 B Body, cheap and no issues so far.

I'm pleasantly surprised by them for the price.

Running high quality Earls Pressure Master gaskets. No leaks!

No I'm not drag racing it. The 327 prob has about 300-350 hp.

I'm using Hedman's on the 52, coated, I'm going to put the "special " bolts & loks on them as I've blown one gasket so far, on a "hard accl. run" & 6 grand plus shifts!!!

too small realy for the 496 but they just don't want to DIE !

Hers's a small rant Carl. 

 

For $50 more for ceramic, why would anyone buy the cheapest painted headers? I mean...the painted ones will rust pretty much within three months unless you live in death valley.

I had painted headers on 3 cars before, and they suck. I had a painted 4 into one header on a bike once... Super Sucked. My lawnmower exhaust sucked as well!

It should be noted that the Summit headers I have appeared to be coated on the INSIDE as well, really, no BS!

$250 Dollars plus FedEx... it's a no brainer for a simple setup.

 

Now, (yes a big NOW) as to how they flow compared to Hookers or Doug's Tri-Y or whatever, that probably is another story.

As I stated before, buy some good gaskets! The cardboard these Asian headers come with are completely useless (just for a packaging show). Also, Buy some good bolts!  

 

If I was to do it again... I'd probably buy these Hooker Stainless, as they've really come down in price over the last 3 years. But question is, will they fit the power steer 65-70?

 

So if you're not going for a Engine Masters shootout winner, the cheapies will work better than just fine.

I think you'll need a special bracket like below to mount headers on your 68 SBC.

If not mistaken, the exhaust manifold thru 68 has the alternator bracket bolthole.

I assume there are brackets for the alternator, my camel humps don't have any threaded holes.

About blown gaskets, I'm told if you use flexible pipe at the collector, you reduce the chances of blowing gaskets, and the locking bolts are a waste of money. Theory being there will be less stress when the engine flexes under hard accelleration.

          Big horsepower will flex more  

        Street motors with good quality gaskets are fine    

        my pontiac had 19 year old gaskets and didn't leak  and more Hp than you are quoting

The lok bolts I just ordered are a allen head with a "serrated" head & a groove in head of bolt. There is a "oblong" washer that has the "serrations on the inside of hole & locks onto the head of bolt & jambs up agains hedder tube. Cire clip goes into groove to hold the washer on. NO WAY can the bolt back off. I just re tightened the hedders "again" & YEP they were loose!!! Shipped bolts to W.Virginia for my June trip to car show so hope I don't blow out another gasket but do have a spare from last time down there!! Maybe take it easy on the POWER shifts?? NAW, thats a BLAST!!!!

I used the Stage 8 bolts on mine as well Pete, but haven't put the locking tabs on yet. I checked all the bolts for tightness, and they were still as tight as they went in.

Perhaps the Earls graphite gasket makes the difference?
