no kick down

Well I finnally put the convertable on the road!Had a blast driving all weekend!

Now I have identified a few issues

Problem 1 the 4 barrel carb is super rich always leaving black exhaust stains out the tailpipes on the ground

Problem 2  the kickdown shaft is broken at 2 speed tranny and not hooked up at carb

aperently the carb is not original

car WASTES fuel like crazy and has no power shifts out of first at 20 mph likely due to the fact kickdown is not hooked up

The engine is a 327

Where do  I start to fix this?

Where do I purchase a new or good used kickdown shaft?

I was also thinking of replacing the points style dist. with a HEI 1103436

Am I on the right track?

I would consider replacing the carb with something members KNOW will work well on this car.

Thanks again, Greg

Lack of kick down will burn up a Power Glide as kick down controls transmission pressure so try not to try not to let the transmission shift early under acceleration. You can wire the linkage to the highest point you can tolerate until you get it fixed.
Holding it in manual low until the shift point you desire is also helpful but let up on the gas until the shift is complete.
Tough as Power Glides are, the lack of kick down will shorten their life considerably.

Thanks
Randy

Really! Have you talked to Stan about posting his personal information on a public forum. Stan is a good friend of mine and I think he'll be pissed off.

You might want to rethink your posts.
