When I replaced the shifter in the "Chief(just before I sold it) I used a complete assembly from Hurst that was supposedly designed for a '66-'67 GTO bench for speed. It was cheaper to buy the assembly-$250- than buy the handle and shifter separately. I worked really well. My 2 cents.........

My only concern is that wouldn't come out of the floor at the right spot. Do you happen to have any pictures of that installation?
