A good time for a reminder about the excellent well researched Engine Nomenclature thread in the Library. Just about everything you need to know is there including decal vendors and photos of air cleaner decals.

Yes, In their infinite wisdom the City has dispatched the snow removal crews to my neighbourhood. There is a snowblower filling tandem dump trucks and bob cats hammering on the glaciers and snow banks along the streets, flashing blue and amber lights so I'm just sitting up in bed with my lap top.  It is a good thing though since by Feb. 27 we had exceeded our annual snowfall and the congestion caused by the snow banks is very bad literally turning two lane streets into one lane. It poses a real public safety risk in residential areas as Firetrucks and Ambulances can not get down the streets.

Last year I bought a "Astro Jet 325hp" and a "396 Pontiac" air cleaner decal from "Used parts guy" GT Enterprises off Ebay for a chrome air cleaner cover for the Grande.

I was accidentally shipped two of the "Astro Jet 325 hp" decals so I have an extra of that one still at home and applied the two to my chrome air cleaner lid. It looks sharp and my origianl air cleaner still have the original decals.

But, I just checked Ebay and this seller is no longer registered? The guy had like 1395 recorded ebay transactions but has since disappeared. I am happy with these repro decals and he had a ton of different Canadian Pontiac decals.

I am pretty sure it shipped from Canada at the time.  The post topic caused me to revisit this ebay transaction and I was surprised that the seller disappeared.

I got mine ordered yesterday along with some for a few friends. I think there's a total of 12 decals coming! I can't wait to put that finishing touch on.

I bought my Jet Flame decals from Ames Performance Engineering about 20 years ago. They still sell them. A 1966 Jet Flame 390HP Air Cleaner decal is Part #PX 574. The cost is only $5 US. They also have a 425HP Decal which has a Part #PX575. . Their phone number is 1-800-421-AMES. You can also order from them online. I also bought my 427 decal from them too.

We were away 2 weeks. I had hoped to take it out tomorrow and do that but the weather looks like it will be holding me captive a little longer. Maybe Friday or Saturday by the look of it.

I sure am itching.........

I'm thinking of putting a pair of aftermarket gauges in for oil and temp but have to figure a way to do it without drilling holes.

Looks Great !!!
Have to agree a dual master would be a smart upgrade... the small one would be barely noticeable.

I really don't plan to drive the car a lot different than I drove it with a 283. It's not like it's going to be seeing 100 mph all the time.

I may think about changing to dual but I'm not in any hurry. It really does have good brakes.

I agree with a dual chamber master cylinder upgrade.  The thing about singles is that they work great until they suddenly don't - then you have nothing.  Happened to a guy I knew with a '66 Coronet, but lucky for him it happened in his garage after a day of driving around - pulled into his garage, then his foot went to the floor and he had zero brakes.  It was sudden and unexpected.

At least with a dual chamber you would have two of four brakes should you blow a flex hose or a wheel cylinder seal.  Something to think about.

Maybe if you've replaced all the seals and rubber parts recently it's not a concern, but if it still has its original survivor parts a lot of deterioration can happen over 53 years.

It's hard to imagine you having a 427 in there and not opening it up occasionally, but you probably have more self control than I do!  drive.gif  wink

Yes, the master is only a few years old. I replaced both rear wheel cylinders when I got the car as they both were showing slight signs of leaking.

I bought a air cleaner for my 427 390 HP at a swap meet and it has a chrome lid. Is the chrome(looks Factory) lid just for corvette 427? The chrome needs to be redone but I won't if the stock GP 390 HP 427 was black.

As far as any information goes that I've ever found, it should be black. It appears there was no underhood chrome on a 66 big block B body. 67 had the chrome valve covers but not 66. As near as I can tell, my engine detailing should be pretty much authentic other than my throttle return spring is wrong. I plan to buy a reproduction spring that looks correct. And of course my hose clamps are wrong.

Can you post a picture of your air cleaner?

Thats funny, I was going to mention the spring but in a different way.

It was switched to the more hidden rearward orientation to reduce wear on the throttle shaft.

Out of sight and safely out of mind

Up front just looks wrong, even if its not.

Single master looks right, even if its not.

GREAT JOB!!!

Thanks

Randy
