And that big ugly spring too!

Interesting that nobody lists a return spring for 66 B body 396/427 throttle spring. I figured Vette had to be close. Ordered one and it works perfect.

 I didn't even notice the spring coils were different, I just noticed it attached differently.

Yes, now the bracket is correct. Before I had to bend it away from the temp sender because that big coil on the spring interfered.

Next I think is paint valve cover tabs and bolts orange, oil filler cap black.

Yes it is, with that wonderful orange engine paint oversprayed on it from the factory! I intentionally didn't clean it up, that's how it came off the line.

Oh really? Interesting.

I know I've saved a few over the years just because I knew they are unique to Canada but I didn't realize the replacements weren't aluminum.

I always get a kick out of seeing the beautiful restored Canadian cars that were done in the US, nice black coil on it!

Beautiful, Carl.  You've really done an amazing job with your engine compartment.

Question:  When did dual throttle return springs come into use?  The big spring looks to be made to fit around a smaller spring (redundancy to prevent a stuck WOT from broken spring).

Thank you, piece by piece I'm getting rid of each little thing that is wrong that nags me to change it every time I open the hood and look!

I actually have no idea where that big spring came from! It was in my box of springs. I just save every spring I can get my hands on and used that one until I found a place selling the correct one. 

I think the duals started early 70's but just a guess. I still remember the numbers for those, 340637 and 340638! We sold tons of those at work over the years, order them from GM often, 10 in a box.

 Thanks Carl, I know I've had cars with and without dual springs, but never really thought much about when they started until I saw the two different springs in your pics.  Amazing you still remember the part numbers!  I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday!

The only thing that still sticks is numbers. I'm not kidding, when my wife sends me to the store for 2 items I have to write it down..... More than once when I went without a list I've had to text and ask what the other item was because I can only remember one of the two.

The other day on my day off our service manager called me at home to ask the part numbers for the plastic axle vents that we used to stock. I gave him 2 different numbers for 2 different vents. We haven't had them in stock for many years already but the numbers are still there.

Last night I went into the garage to get something. On the way I noticed a drink can that needed to go to the recycle bin so I took it along, dropped it in the bin and came back in the house without the item I originally was headed there for..............painful...............
