March 2020 Feature Car

Love the sedan delivery. I really appreciate the restoration on the car and know first hand of how hard it is to find nos 1955 Canadian Pontiac parts. The side emblems, tail light lenses, back up light lenses unique to station wagons and sedan deliveries and head light doors are very hard to find and now really expensive to buy. The cost to rechrome that 3 piece front bumper is $1800. The front grille ends are almost impossible to find in repairable condition as they are unique to Canadian cars and do not interchange with the Americian built Pontiacs. The hood bar is a Canadian 1955 only as the 56 grille bar is different.

You are lucky to have a father in law that saved the car and appreciate the fact you helped him restore it. I would like to see the data plate and check the paint code. The production total number I have at home and if I remember is appx 1200. The front seat is identical to the seat in my 55 Pathfinder 2 dr station wagon and the seam is split in the same location as yours.

The builder of the car even used a V8 radiator support when installing the 327 engine. The only options on the car are the deluxe 3 spoke steering wheel and the 1956 lighter which is white and the 55 black.

Beautiful car congratulations on owning it.

Eddy, the more i look at your fine 55 delivery, the more i love it. I am just curious here, have you ever taken her down the quarter mile track. Or maybe your father in law has taken her down the track in the past. Cheers.

Nice delivery. I have a 56 2 door Pontiac wagon that looks similar. I had GM historical research mine and there were only 361 2 door wagon Pathfinder deluxes produced in 56. I am guesting your is a similar number. Have fun with it. Come on summer and dry roads!!

Thanks so much Albert.  I'm pretty  excited  for spring  time,

Seems  like it's  taking  forever.  Pretty  sure your bang  on, this didn't  have the  a clock either. I can't take a pic of the tag and send it to you if your  interest.  There  is only  the one underneath  the hood by the battery  if I'm correct right? Maybe  I should part this sedan  out and cash in on the rare parts and pieces lol.. I'm sure the interior  is the original  color  as well.

Hi George,  nope never  been down the track. But I'll tell yeah

I've been pissed off at the old girl a few times. Last summer we

Having  fuel problems, the fuel  tank was rusting from condensation witch sucked  cause  the tank was only  about  five years  old.. we got it running  good again after a new tank. I went down  a back road  near  my house and I totally  came on to it from 2 gear right  up to 4th. It actually  pushed  me into the seat pretty  hard and the front end definitely  was pulling  upward.. some rubber  between  2 and third.. I felt bad for the sedan, I'm thinking  that's  the hardest  she had to work  in awhile..

Yep shining  paint is overrated lol.. it's to hard on your eyes  when you get the glare from the hood through  the windshield..

!956 was the lowest production of Canadian Pontiacs and Chevrolets due to a strike from Sept 9 1955 until Feb 22 1956. Just check the only data plate and look at the body number which will reference the sedan delivers only. Total production in 1955 of Canadian Pontiacs was appx 33,000.

I will be back home in mid may and be able to break down the complete data plate for you. A clock was standard equipment on Laurentian models only. Another option your car has is the electric wiper motor. Pretty much everything else was an option on sedan delivers and Pathfinder models.

This is a great machine!  The sedan deliveries were highly coveted for their opportunities for privacy back in the days before vans were ubiquitous

A foam mattress in the back and a few blankets and you were ready to go to town! Or more correctly the most obscure bush trail you could find.

All the ones I remember seeing back then had that neat combo smell of old car and smoke  (and not from the tires if you know what I mean.)

Great time capsule!

Beautiful car and the motor transmission combo is perfect. I wonder what it did in it's past life? Congratulations.

Hey Albert. Thks for all the info!! I'd be more than  happy  to get you the info on the data plate.  Should I just take a pic and post on a message  like this ?  I'm still learning  my way around  the Pontiac  web site. It's like you gotta  really  look around for conversations. I'm guessing it's just me learning  this site. Don't  get me wrong, I'm not complaining  about the site at all. I think it's so cool I found it.

Thanks alot for all the interest on my sedan makes a guy feel good that his ride doesn't have to come from barret Jackson to be appreciated.. I just want to clear up one thing, I dont want to take credit from my father in law for restoring this wagon.. he did that many many years ago. I just help him over the year's to love and maintain and tinker on the sedan.. I will continue to love work on this and keep the wagon rolling down the road...

that is SUPER-DUPER cool!!

congrats on having such a cool father-in-law! (I'm sure there's at least a couple who read your story that will be jealous!)

Were I in your shoes, I'd want to add another row for seating - because even if you put it in there, it's just a couple bolts to take it back out;
Are the floors shared with hte non-delivery Safari (eg: there are already provisions for seat anchors?)

Great car - so much about it that's cool, and especially so because it had been left for dead in the bush and your father in law saw fit to save it!

One nice thing about monthly feature cars is that we will be able to admire them for another month next year when Todd puts together the next calendar!  smile

He is a pretty  cool guy for sure. He's  had a ton of old cars  over the years.  He still has a few jems stashed away..  I totally  thought  about  the second  seat for sure.  But then I'd have to take my kids out to lol... I dont think  it's got a spot from the factory  for bolts..

Eddy, i have been meaning to ask you about the dual PCV valves. You need a breather on the opposite, meaning the passenger side. Your present setup has too much PCV action and no fresh air intake action. Do you have a hidden fresh air supply to your crankcase that can not be seen in the pictures. No criticism here, it is just that an engine needs fresh filtered air going in the crankcase to aid in the crankcase ventilation process. Cheers.

What can I say that hasn't been said?

Great car, great story! I'm also curious about the PVC arrangement. I don't suppose you have an early 327 with a draft tube?
