That is the oil pressure switch. Replace it. Turn the ignition switch on without starting the car. The idiot light for oil pressure should illuminate.
Disconnect the wire and the light will go out which indicates you have full pressure.
Most of us just put in a T junction where the switch is and run an accessory oil pressure gauge so you get an accurate reading. It is usually too late when that light comes on when you are driving
I saw this the other day but didnt have time to reply. I have the same issue on my car and havent had time to fix it. From my research talking to buddies its my intake bolts not having enough sealant on them and the oil wicks up the bolt. I put sealant on when I did the engine a few years ago but am going to pop them out and reseal them. As far as the oil pressure switch they are known to leak but they are at the back of the block and will typically leak down the rear of the engine. They can almost make it confusing thinking your rear seal is leaking. I had to replace mine a couple years ago. To me the results are quite different. Hope that helps.
Just reminded myself to take care of this same issue today. I had put some goob to prevent leaking when I did the engine a few years ago but apparently I didn't have the bolts cleaned off well enough or hadn't kneaded the goob as good as needed. When I took the 2 centre bolts out of the manifold the one showed oil that had migrated right up to the head so I am confident in knowing the source. I gave them an extra good clean this time and goobed them up and hopefully no more oil puddles on the intake.
Thanks Carl. I had that problem a couple of years ago. Oil was coming down the back of the engine though and I thought I had a rear seal issue. Replaced that little puppy and all was fine. With the intake the oil didn't accumulate as much with just a little little puddle in the intake. Hoping I have it taken care of. Those are 2 of the culprits though. Good to see your input again.
