Self-tapping fuel inlet fitting for a Quadrajet

A buddy was doing a tuneup on his girlfriends car and cross threaded the fitting after changing the filter. Fortunately he remembered me pointing out the repair fitting, and raced to the nearest auto parts store. He bought one, screwed it in, and the car ran fine for the duration of their relationship.

So, if say the long term effects will be positive.

The only other option to save this carb was a Helicoil.
I researched these a bit and carefully followed all the advice and it seems to have been a great opthion.
1/2 turn in, 1/4 turn back, until it was done.
Then remove and vacuumed the filings out.
Re-instaled with filter.
Does anyone have long term experience with these ?

I KNOW THERE WAS A LONG AND SHORT VERSION OF THESE

I REMBER PUTTING A LONG ONE IN YEARS AGO

TURNED IN A LITTLE FATHER . JUST ENOUGH TO CATCH GOOD THREADS.

oh thats never happened to me never knew about the self tapping version but did know about the longer fitting. always toss those filters for a inline big HP gains

One of the first things I did with the 350, two speed car was to go with a big in-line filter.

This car needs to look like it came from the factory as much as I can.

I will consider the filter question later.

For now, I just need to have the carb ready for the engine stand.

I'm glad I got to test this carb on the other big block, last year.

I seem to recall that these have some issue... but I'm forgetting what the problem is with these.

I really need to buy a proper heli-coil kit - I have several Pontiac carbs here that could use thread repair (but only one has totally shot inlet threads).

I had found a link maybe four years ago of a not-totally-outrageous prices Quadrajet heli-coil kit... but have since lost it.

If anyone has any leads on where to buy from, I am all ears.
