Anybody know what this is?


Hi guys,

I'm getting close to getting my 68 2+2 back on the road, after almost 2 years.
I was going through the engine bay and painting odd parts.

I came across this plunger/striker thing installed on the drivers side of the carburetor and it has 2 wires coming out
of it but they aren't connected to anything. I think it's been inactive for many years.

Anybody have an idea. I couldn't find a part number on it, although it is an AC Delco part.

I should add, if I remember right, the power wire for the switch connects with the power wire (I'm thinking maybe it's a yellow wire) that goes to the wiper motor and the other wire runs down to the side of the TH400.

I think they were only used on a few cars for a few years.

Most of the rest of the cars had the switch on the firewall.

Don't throw it out as it's worth a few bucks. It was used for a handful of years across various GM models. It is not reproduced.

Yes, they are valuable, and tough to find. 66-69 for sure and I'm not sure about 70?

 Not used in 1970.  I think the 1970 switch was used in some applications for 1969 (2 bbl?), but I'd agree the switch in question was about 1966 - 1969.   The right GTO guy would kill for one.

 Yes, it gets powered by the center pin of the 3 pin connector on the wiper motor.  I have a harness in the garage somewhere, and a switch with a reproduction bracket in my basement.

I had a 1970 Belair 4 dr. with one on a 2bbl carb, I often wondered how it came to have a T-400 trans.

 350 2 barrel with a TH400? Wow, that is an odd one. Taxi equipment or something?

I don't think it ever was a taxi, it was just a plain sedan I bought for the Engine.

My thoughts were there possibly was a surplus of short T-400's.

And the upcoming big cars would all be long tail shafts.

I remember seeing a 1971 6 cyl taxi with a long PG !!

I've had the car re-framed over the last year and a half and I suspect the mechanic may have
missed hooking this back up.

I'll get in re-installed.
