RE: Red River Situation

I think your going to be ok Carl. If from what you say is about right that its risen only 8" in 40 hours. Thats says crest ahoy! Just like 97 it did exactly the same thing. Two days later they say oh Crest is here, by then it fell the same 8" or so. I'd bet not much higher and you will see it fall a bit. Then as you know this its now down to the wait part for the Red to recede. God Bless.

Today we saw about 2" in 12 hours. I like it!

It is going to be around a long time though. My guess is I will boat until about May 12th. We'll see how close I am. Mark your calendars!

Oh, and I promise I will try not to take any more semi naked pictures!

IMG_1264.JPGIMG_1265.JPGIMG_1266.JPG  Carl, the water looks so close to your house ??? How far is it now, your basement foundation Okay ie. no leaks ? Hang in there bud, how is Luke doing? The Lasalle river is 10 feet away from my house so I sandbagged it yesterday, it went down a couple inches this morning and back up tonight, my sump pump goes every minute, the foundation is 100 years old so it leaks and the river water table is higher.

Luc should be fine, he is protected for 97 plus a bit. We are currently 19" under 97

It's not going down anytime soon here Pascal. I suspect we will be at this level plus a bit more for at  least 2-3 weeks if history has anything to do with it.

A while ago someone asked about tube dike technology. At that point it was new here and was doing ok but it has proven to be a failure here now.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2009/04/15/mb-flood-tube-dikes.html

I had posted this a while ago but in the wrong thread. I posted it in the full size Pontiac registry thread! If I do that very often you guys will think I've lost it from being here on the island too long!!

Didn't know you were in that kinda messcry Last time I asked you everything was fine. Hope that city worker is rightconfuse You know what to do.....Save the car and all the Pontiac parts.

Those new tube dykes make it real easy to drive down a washed out road and not hit the ditch. Your city dollars hard at work.

This is my friend's dad summing it up very well. I don't care if you guys are getting tired of hearing this from me, you are playing a big part in helping me stay sane right now. I don't want to think of my life without internet at this point. I tend to joke around but the reality is, this man sums it up very well.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/special/floodwatch/nine-days-of-being-marooned-driving-couple-stir-crazy-43086272.html

One thing I should do is give numbers. If I happen to lose internet for some reason, (should be ok, it's wireless) my home number is 204-746-2841 and my cell (which I only have on if I'm in the boat or if the land line should quit) is 204-746-4903

Coming home from the neighbour's place last evening.

I'm on Provincial Road 330.........

In the picture above, the boat would be almost exactly the spot where the Roadmaster is in the picture below.

I find this interesting. A lake this size has a pretty good current. This is just a cheap video (no sound) but it shows a large board floating against a decent wind. This is right behind our house.

Unbelievable, the amount of water. From your pictures it looks like there is about 4' of water on the road you are boating on. Stay safe and hope you dry out there soon

Your assesment on water level is pretty close. I dipped it and it's about 3 1/2! Not bad for a guess over 1000 miles away!

We won't be drying out any time soon, sadly.

Updates coming later this evening. Right now it's evening news time.

I believe this is the Prime Minister and Premier as they headed to Morris today. We (neighbour and I) had left to go pick up a pump and generator for him just before they flew over here. I guess I'll see him on the news here shortly to see if we impressed him with our new water park...

Well, duh, maybe I should post the picture I meant to an hour ago...... Looks like they flew almost right over top of me and I wasn't home! I could have stood up on the roof and waved my arms with the international distress signal or something!

Carl, That picture kinda looks like Long Point Bay on Lake Erie.
Hang in there

Well, our neighbour and I boated out the 3 1/2 miles to dry land this afternoon. Even there it's barely dry land any more!

We got to the highway where our vehicles are parked, pulled up the boat and tied it to a highway sign.

After driving into town to buy gas, groceries etc. I picked up our 14 year old son to come back with us. Now I have company here. YAY!!!

Anyway, when we got back to the boat, it was close to swamped. The filthy flood water and straw had washed over the back when the waves hit it. The waves were fairly high today as it was fairly windy. I began manually bailing the boat when my neighbour suddenly said "hey, there's a pump in my truck" so we did it the lazy way. How's this for a bilge pump???

Anyway, once we got it dried out back home 3 1/2 miles against wind to settle back in but at least no more being alone!!!

What does Lloyd Robertson say each night? "And that's the kind of day it was this Thursday April 16th" or something like that.

All told, it took me 4 hours to drive a total of 14 miles, buy meat, lettuce and buns, fill 2 boat gas tanks and pick up the kids at school.

And some of the guys at work wonder why I've quit coming to work until this is over.......

There is NO way I could manage an 8 hour job right now and get this all done too.

We have to try to keep our sense of humour through this all.

Today they forcible evacuated a farmer customer of mine from his home. It was to the point that he could possibly be in danger if he stays as his dike is causing problems.

I gather it was a pretty unpleasant situation overall.
